I loved Katie and Benny’s uber-cool Stoke Newington wedding for many reasons (a super chic wedding dress with a twist, a brass band, pineapple centrepieces anyone?), but one of the main reasons was that I love the area. I lived in Stoke Newington for four years when I first moved to London, and so I get very excited at the prospect of shooting a wedding there. It’s got a very village-y feel, from the very cute Church Street with its abundance of cafes and vintage shops, to the fantastic Abney Park Cemetery around the corner, where you can go for a walk and feel a million miles from the city.
They then went across the street to have their civil ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall, which is one of my favourite town halls in London. Not only are the registrars incredibly helpful and friendly, but the light in the ceremony room is fantastic.
The Londesborough is a quintessential London pub inside and out, perfect for a pub wedding. Classic music posters and cans of ale decorate the walls, with the aforementioned pineapple centrepieces on the tables. Add to that an awesome pineapple wedding cake from Mei's Kitchen and you've got yourself a perfect London pub wedding.
After bridal party shots with the most awesome bridesmaids ever, we wandered around the streets of Stoke Newington for some portraits. I love the local area with its array of graffiti, textures and colours, great for getting creative with. Also, so much love for Katie's amazing dress from Sandro Paris. Short and chic, but also fun, with the words 'peace' and 'love' embroidered into the lace.
And then it was back to the Londesborough for the party - Benny and his best man are both DJs and so there was no shortage of awesome tunes for the night!
